Helpful Hints
1. Deciding
what to keep. When packing
use common sense, don't be too sentimental. Dispose of unwanted items before you
move! Don't pay for movers to pack and transport items you no longer need. If
you have children this is good time to get them involved by arranging a garage
sale and making posters to advertise in the local area. Make some money
or donate to charity.
2. Inventory. It is very important to keep a complete inventory of what
you are intending to move to your new home and a second list of any items
you intend to put into storage.
3. Power of Attorney. You will need to appoint someone in your home
country to be granted power of attorney to take care of business or personal
matters in your absence.
4. Legal Papers. Revise all legal papers such as your will to reflect
your new address
5. Mail. The majority of post in Doha is sent by a P.O. Box system. If
you do not have your actual address yet, make arrangement with your company for
the forwarding of mail.
6. Bank & Credit References. Request from your bank in your home country
for credit references to be used in Doha.
7. Insurance. Advise your life insurance companies of your move. Check
you have full insurance coverage of your shipment. If you are intending renting
your house while you are abroad inform the building society and arrange
additional insurance coverage if necessary.
8. Passport Photographs. Keep around 12 passport photographs and copies
of your passport you will need them!
9. Pets. In the majority of cases there is no problem bringing pets to
Doha. However as a quarantine period of 6 months applies to animals even in
transit through the U.K., this flight route must be avoided. You will require
documentation from your veterinarian that your pet has received a Rabies
vaccination no more than two weeks before departure. Costs of transporting vary
considerably therefore we suggest you shop around.
